Style Explorations

Our team wanted to find different ways to explore the traditional Swiss paper cut out style. I tried a lot of different explorations from digital collage and embroidery techniques.

Collage Exploration

With the style explorations, it led me to the idea of taking the actual Swiss paper cut outs and collaging them to create flat, graphic landscapes. I wanted to modernize the Swiss paper cut out while still having a feeling of the motifs, textures, and overall silhouettes of the cut outs, This led to the inspiration of the final style frame.

JOSIE AND THE CIRCUS

A remix of the ugly duckling story with a 1920s circus group. Josie is deemed a “freak” at birth and abandoned. She gets accepted by the circus as one of their own. She grows up in the circus with other circus performers considered “oddities”
